Jason Cundy explains what now has him ‘stuck’ on whether Chelsea should sign Jadon Sancho permanently

The future of Chelsea’s Jadon Sancho is certainly a big talking point ahead of the summer.

There are still a couple of important months left for Chelsea this season as they try to win the Conference League and secure Champions League qualification via the Premier League. Afterwards, the Blues are also competing in the Club World Cup tournament this summer.

It’ll be interesting to see how important Jadon Sancho, 25, is during the games ahead.

When Sancho moved to Stamford Bridge last summer on a season-long loan from Manchester United, the Blues announced they have an obligation to buy him. However, it’s since been claimed that Chelsea can opt out of purchasing Sancho at the end of the campaign if they pay a £5m penalty fee.

It’s even been reported elsewhere that Chelsea may look to sell Sancho themselves this summer once he’s joined them for around £25m.

Let’s wait and see what happens with the English winger’s future. If he can finish this season strongly, perhaps the fanbase will rally behind the idea of keeping him.

Jason Cundy can’t decide if Chelsea should sign Jadon Sancho permanently

Jason Cundy really isn’t sure whether Chelsea should make Sancho their player on a permanent basis. While he appreciates the player’s potential and good transfer price, he’s frustrated by his lack of pace in certain games.

When asked if the Blues should pay £25m to sign Sancho, Cundy told talkSPORT: “I’m stuck in the middle on this one. There have been moments and flashes, and £25m is not a lot of money; it really isn’t, actually. You can probably move him on in two years time and make money on the back of it.

“My issue with Jadon is that he doesn’t go on the outside enough. He doesn’t threaten. Over three of four yards, he’s got a nice little burst of pace. Over 10 to 15 [yards], he hasn’t.”

It’s not a good sign that Chelsea fans were fuming with Sancho after his contribution in the recent league win over Tottenham.

In general, the on-loan Blues attacker has struggled to consistently provide enough key moments this season. His numbers are pretty underwhelming for a player of his ability, too.

Jadon Sancho couldn’t capitalise on quick start at Chelsea

Sancho actually got off to a really strong start in his Blues career in the early weeks of the season. In his first three Chelsea appearances, he chipped in with four assists and some catching performances during a hat-trick of wins.

Even though we’ve seen glimpses of the skilful winger throughout the campaign, he’s not really hit that sort of purple patch again.

Chelsea thought Sancho was a perfect fit earlier in the season for an Enzo Maresca side, but he’s been in and out of the starting XI in the months that have followed.

At this moment in time, we’d put both Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto above Sancho in the club’s pecking order for the wide roles.
