Even though it feels like an encouraging time to be a Chelsea fan right now, there is still plenty of work to be done at the club, both on and off the pitch, before the club are truly back to their glory years.
The Blues are celebrating winning both the Club World Cup and Conference League last season.
For Enzo Maresca, he’s certainly had the desired impact at Stamford Bridge during his first year as the head coach. His team also finished fourth in the Premier League to qualify for next season’s Champions League, plus won a couple of trophies.
However, Chelsea’s players have been told to stay humble by the club’s officials because there is still a lot more work to do.

Jason Cundy urges Chelsea to fix discipline problem
Looking ahead to next season, Jason Cundy has told Chelsea they must fix their disciplinary problem because Maresca’s side picks up too many bookings.
Cundy told talkSPORT: “Our discipline, we’ve got to sort that out. We had the most bookings last season in the league. That cannot continue. We had four suspensions at the Club World Cup. That’s something that can change our season.”
Last season in the Premier League, the Blues received more yellow cards than any other side in the top division.
| Rank | Club | Yellow cards |
| 1 | Chelsea | 99 |
| 2 | Bournemouth | 97 |
| 3 | Southampton | 89 |
| 4 | Leicester City | 87 |
| 5 | Nottingham Forest | 86 |
It’s an issue that carried over to the Club World Cup tournament this summer, too. They collected the most bookings during the competition, which ended with a dramatic 3-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain in the final.
| Rank | Club | Yellow cards |
| 1 | Chelsea | 17 |
| 2 | Fluminense | 15 |
| 3 | Benfica | 13 |
| 4 | Palmeiras | 11 |
| 5 | Botafogo | 11 |
Back in 2023, former Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino warned his players about bookings, so it’s clear this group of players needs to work on that. We’re not sure how much help they will get in that regard by signing the aggressive forwards Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, though.

Enzo Maresca’s aim at Chelsea next season
Reports claim that Maresca’s main objective at Chelsea is Champions League qualification next season despite the raised expectation from the team’s recent success.
Alan Shearer thinks Chelsea can challenge for the Premier League fresh off winning the Club World Cup. Can they really compete with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal over a 38-game league season, though?
Without a doubt, the Blues’ young team is going in the right direction as they mature and grow together.
The disciplinary problem is something that Maresca should be able to impact, but time and experience are needed to sustain a league title bid.
