Mateo Kovacic has taken to Instagram to praise Kai Havertz for his performance for Chelsea against Bournemouth last night.
The Blues returned to Premier League football with a comprehensive 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge, as they look to rebuild from their dire start to the season.
The German found the net early on after a sensational Raheem Sterling pass, before teeing up Mason Mount to double their lead to an unassailable position.
Graham Potter handed the 23-year-old the start up front ahead of recognised striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Armando Broja is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Havertz certainly repaid the manager’s faith in him, as he produced a brilliant performance outside of the goal involvements.
Kovacic praises Havertz
The display obviously impressed teammate Kovacic, who took to Instagram to comment a King’s crown emoji.
The Croatian is yet to return to the club after his sensational World Cup. His country registered a third place finish in the tournament in Qatar.
Potter has already hinted that he will return to the squad this week, alongside fellow World Cup hero Hakim Ziyech.
Havertz meanwhile will be hoping to have done enough to convince the manager that he should start again when the Blues return to action on New Year’s Day against Nottingham Forest.
He may be playing in the knowledge that his place in the team on a long-term basis could be in danger.
The Blues have already agreed a deal to sign striker David Datro Fofana from Molde, with the idea being for him to be a star for the future.
However, there were reports over the weekend that claimed Chelsea were considering a move for wantaway forward Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid, with him playing a very similar style and position to the Germany international.
