Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino look ready to put a lot of trust in one of their players.
Robert Sanchez recently picked up an injury, while Chelsea have been linked with a move for Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale.
However, according to the Evening Standard, the Blues are going to give Djordje Petrovic a run in the team instead of buying a new goalkeeper in January.
The 24-year-old did not cover himself in glory for Everton’s second goal in Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park earlier this month, but the same outlet claims that the club believe he can rise to the task in Sanchez’s absence.
Since the Everton defeat, Petrovic has gone on to make his full Chelsea debut, which came in their 2-0 win against Sheffield United on Saturday. Pochettino stated after the game that the Serbian was very happy.

Huge opportunity for Djordje Petrovic
It is unfortunate that Sanchez is injured. He has made a couple of mistakes this season, but overall, he has probably been one of Chelsea’s better performers.
For Petrovic, though, he perhaps has the chance now to become the Blues’ No.1. If he can excel during Sanchez’s absence and help his side to win points and climb the table, there may not be a reason for Pochettino to drop him once his rival is fit again.
You cannot be too sure of what to expect from Petrovic yet, though. As mentioned earlier, the Serbian could have done better for Lewis Dobbin’s goal for Everton, while he was barely tested in the Sheffield United game, with Chris Wilder’s side refusing to come out of their own box.
Petrovic, who cost Chelsea £14m (Sky Sports), is going to come up against much more threatening teams. That is what you are going to have to judge the former New England Revolution star on.
