Chelsea face a quick turnaround for their upcoming trip to Brentford this weekend.
On Thursday night, Chelsea recorded a 1-0 win at home against Tottenham, which lifted them back up to fourth position in the Premier League table.
Chelsea’s biggest winners against Spurs included Enzo Fernandez, who scored the match-winning goal to continue his great form in 2025.
Next, the Blues make the short trip across West London to face London rivals Brentford on Sunday afternoon.

Paul Merson and Chris Sutton predict Brentford vs Chelsea
Paul Merson has highlighted that Chelsea’s upcoming trip to Brentford is likely to be extremely tricky, tipping a score draw between the sides.
Merson told Sportskeeda: “Brentford is a tough place to go as an away team and Chelsea will feel that this weekend. Even though Chelsea looked better the other day, they shoud’ve beaten Spurs by more goals in my opinion. I know Brentford aren’t fliyng at home like they were at the start of the season, but this is still a very tricky game for Chelsea.
“If Chelsea can get at least a draw and then beat Ipswich in the next game, they will be in the top five with six games to go. If you told them that at the start of the season, I’m sure they would’ve taken it…
“Prediction: Brentford 1-1 Chelsea.”
Similarly, Chris Sutton agrees that Chelsea will drop points on Sunday by drawing at Brentford. In fact, he’s raised the “issue” of consistency for the Blues this season.
Sutton told BBC Sport: “Chelsea’s issue has been consistency – they played well to beat Tottenham on Thursday but can they back it up here? I am not sure.
“Brentford are another team I have struggled to get right this season, but I’d always back them to score.
“I have feeling this is going to be an open game with a few goals. A win would be big for Chelsea in their push for a top-five finish, but I don’t think they will get it.
“Sutton’s prediction: 2-2.”
In their last eight Premier League games, Chelsea have four wins and four defeats. It’s the definition of inconsistency because they’ve not been able to build any real momentum in the past couple of months.
The Chelsea team news for Brentford is that Wesley Fofana and Romeo Lavia both need to be assessed after missing the Spurs victory. With such a quick turnaround between games, it’s a blow to lose anyone going into the crucial part of the season.

Brentford and Chelsea head to head
Earlier in the season, Chelsea secured a 2-1 victory at home to Brentford. Marc Cucurella and Nicolas Jackson were on the scoresheet in the December fixture.
However, the Blues’ record against the Bees in recent years is a bit shaky.

Ahead of the weekend’s fixtures, Thomas Frank’s Brentford side sit 11th in the league table as they enjoy another strong season in the top division. They’ll be looking for a response against Chelsea after their recent 2-1 defeat away to Newcastle United, though.
On paper, this is one of Chelsea’s toughest remaining fixtures this season in their final eight league matches.
