Danny Murphy has been amazed by the brilliance of Chelsea youngster Cole Palmer this season.

Cole Palmer, 21, has been the shining light in Chelsea’s campaign so far.

The £75,000-a-week playmaker (Spotrac) has fitted in effortlessly at Stamford Bridge following his arrival from Manchester City.

We know this is a Blues side that aren’t the best going forward, but he’s made a key contribution of eight goals and six assists from 19 games across all competitions so far.

He’s emerged as one of the first names in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting line-up, whether that’s as a right-winger or a No 10 creative playmaker.

TalkSPORT pundit Murphy included Chelsea’s Palmer in his Premier League Team of the Season so far.

He’s been left stunned by the 21-year-old’s fantastic displays since his move to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

“I’ve gone Cole Palmer as the 10, I think he’s been absolutely outstanding, I didn’t see this level from him at [Manchester] City. He’s absolutely outstanding, his game intelligence is phenomenal,” Murphy told talkSPORT.

Incidentally, Jamie Carragher also picked Palmer in his Premier League Team of the Season so far, via Sky Sports Premier League.

In fairness, we doubt many would have predicted Palmer to hit the ground running at Chelsea quite in this fashion. In our view, he’s looked head and shoulders above most of his teammates.

The Blues often look pretty chaotic when the ball gets into the final third, but Palmer’s the rare exception with complete composure in the opposition’s penalty area.

His second goal in the recent 3-2 league win over Luton Town epitomised his calmness and high football IQ, dragging the ball around the keeper before finishing in a crowded box.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast this week, Gary Lineker hailed Palmer as a “very talented” player that could force his way into England’s final squad for this summer’s European Championship.

At the age of 21, Palmer’s really got the world at his feet in the coming years!
