It is fair to say that the new ownership at Chelsea have been pretty ruthless when it comes to how they have dealt with some of their first team players.

There seems to have been no remorse or loyalty shown to players who have come through the academy at Cobham, with pure profit instead being on the agenda.

This has been notable in how they have dealt with Conor Gallagher, as they look to ship him out to Atletico Madrid.

That deal is in jeopardy of collapsing though, with Chelsea today requesting Gallagher returns to Stamford Bridge as talks remain ongoing.

Another product of the academy who looks surplus to requirements is Trevoh Chalobah, so much so that he was banished from the first team’s pre-season tour of the United States.

There is interest in his services from Premier League sides, however no one at this stage looks particularly close to pulling off a move.

Tony Cascarino has claimed that how Chelsea are treating the defender must have left him gutted.

He told TalkSPORT (11/08 7:55am): “I am pretty sure if you would have spoken to Trevoh Chalobah at the end of the season, the way it ended for him because he did play well towards the end, and he would have probably looked forward to this season.

“What has happened since is that he doesn’t know where he is at. All he knows is that he has probably got to move on from Chelsea, and it has probably torn his heartstrings.”

The defence Enzo Maresca looks to name at the start of the season against Manchester City is going to be interesting, after they shipped goals for fun during pre-season.

One member who certainly won’t be there is Reece James, who was already going to be missing the start of the campaign due to a suspension carrying over from last season.

However, he has also seen injury woes come back to haunt him, with him currently not training with the rest of the squad as a result of a minor problem.
