Chelsea will have been expecting to have completed the sale of one of last season’s top appearance makers by now.
They thought they had a deal secured that would see Conor Gallagher leave the club and join Atletico Madrid, with him entering the last year of his contract.
However, it seems as if this was part of a domino affect that involved Chelsea signing Samu Omorodion, with that deal collapsing in dramatic circumstances.

It was reported that Chelsea have shifted their attention from Omorodion to Victor Osimhen, however other claims state they have found something they didn’t like in his medical.
Whatever it is, the deal is off, and there is a risk the Gallagher one will be too. For this reason, the Blues have made an interesting decision.
Chelsea tell Conor Gallagher to come back to Stamford Bridge
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea have requested he return to the club, although the door remains open for a move to Spain if things sort themselves out.
He said: “Chelsea request Conor Gallagher to return to London on Tuesday, set to book flight.
“Chelsea see all deals as separate, João Félix too — offered to Chelsea on Sunday. Door remains OPEN for Gallagher to join Atléti after medical done, up to all parties involved.”
Chelsea considering Joao Felix
It has been claimed the latest attempts to try and get the deal to go through have revolved around Joao Felix going the other way, after his half season spent on loan here in 2023.
Chelsea fans have not been convinced by Felix, or that his profile is what the club need at this stage.
There is an argument that a central defender and natural striker are far more important additions to be made by the club right now, with Osimhen reports refusing to go away.
Chelsea will be hoping that Napoli’s own interest in signing Romelu Lukaku will see the Serie A club soften their stance on the Nigerian’s price tag late in the window.
