New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso could be about to replace Alejandro Garnacho with Bologna’s Jonathan Rowe.
Garnacho is edging closer to a move to AS Roma, with the 22-year-old not in Alonso’s plans.
The Chelsea Chronicle has been told that Chelsea are now considering Rowe as their left-wing signing this summer.
So, how do the Bologna winger and Garnacho compare and what conclusion can Alonso draw from their 2025/26 campaigns?

Chelsea target Jonathan Rowe not a massive upgrade on Alejandro Garnacho
Rowe scored more league goals than Garnacho last season, although that was not a difficult task.
In 24 Premier League appearances, Garnacho only managed to score one goal. Rowe scored a couple more, but he did play more minutes.
Garnacho recorded four assists, which was two more than what Rowe managed. He did much better in that area, but these are not outstanding numbers.
Ultimately, there is nothing to suggest that Rowe would be a huge upgrade on Garnacho if he joins Chelsea this summer.
With that being said, his dribbling was much better. According to WhoScored, Rowe completed 1.8 dribbles per league game, while Garnacho only completed 0.6.
What does signing Jonathan Rowe and selling Alejandro Garnacho actually solve? 😵💫
The Chelsea Chronicle understands that Rowe is now a target for the Blues
Rowe has potential and should develop into a much more effective wide man as he grows older. But Alonso needs signings who can make an impact right away.
Chelsea finished in 10th place last term. Will bringing in young players who need time to develop really help them to move up the table? Probably not.
The likes of Rafael Leao and Morgan Rogers would be more suitable options, but the former does not appear to be a priority for the Blues right now, while there are many barriers preventing a swoop for the latter.
Chelsea are not giving up on Rogers, but his reported £130m price tag and Arsenal’s interest really complicate things for the Blues. It makes Rowe a more likely signing, but he would not be a better one.
