While Chelsea saw a number of players leave the club on a permanent basis this summer, it is fair to say they were hoping not all of them moved on.

They certainly made a big effort to secure some exits. Conor Gallagher has every right to feel forced out after he was frozen out of the first team picture.

Another who faced this treatment was Trevoh Chalobah. The defender was left off the pre-season tour in an attempt to accelerate his departure out of the club, with him moving on loan on deadline day to Crystal Palace.

Given the vast amount of players the Blues lost during the transfer window, it was always likely that a potential star was going to slip through the net.

One player who certainly fits that description is Rio Ngumoha, who completed a permanent move to Liverpool over the summer.

John Terry is one figure who thinks he has an immense future, saying he already is and will become a ‘top, top player’.

Rio Ngumoha was open to staying at Chelsea

It looks as if it was not out of Chelsea’s hands to keep hold of him though. According to the Mail Online, Ngumoha was open to staying with the Blues, although they did not come through with suitable promises over his future in time.

There is likely some worry across the academy over their opportunities to progress to first team football at Stamford Bridge off the back of the magnitude of promising youngsters they have signed from across world football.

However, the Blues will likely argue that opportunities are being handed out, and the Conference League provides them with a great chance to put that theory to the test.

The likes of Kiano Dyer have a great chance to feature in the European competition after being named in the squad for the group stages that will take place across the next few months.
