In the January transfer window, Chelsea allowed Renato Veiga to join Juventus on loan for the rest of the season.
Chelsea only signed Renato Veiga from Basel last summer, but the defender failed to break into Enzo Maresca‘s starting XI.
In total, he made just one start in the Premier League before joining Juventus. It is no surprise that Veiga wanted to leave Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea’s loss is now proving to be Juventus’ gain, with the 21-year-old already making quite a name for himself in Italy.

Renato Veiga dubbed Juventus’ ‘new wall’
It has only been four games, but it looks like Veiga has already convinced those who watch Italian football.
Based on his last appearance, they are right to be convinced. Veiga was superb for Juventus in their 1-0 win against Inter Milan.
He is now being called Juventus’ “new wall”, and a wall is ironically something Chelsea could do with right now.
Their central defence has been so poor recently, conceding three goals last time out against Brighton & Hove Albion. Levi Colwill in particular is having a period to forget.

Renato Veiga’s defensive stats at Juventus
Chelsea may be struggling to deal with danger at the moment, but Veiga is not.
According to WhoScored, the Portuguese is making five clearances per game in Serie A, which is the most in Juventus’ squad.
He is also making 2.3 interceptions per game, which is again the highest average among Juventus players.

| Minutes | 270 |

Veiga was playing at left-back for Chelsea but wanted game time in central defence. According to Fabrizio Romano, Veiga’s desire to start as a centre-back is why he pushed for a move away from west London last month.
With how Veiga is performing there, Enzo Maresca surely has to consider him as a centre-half option when he returns.
But Juventus are going to want to keep the Portugal international now, and he may very well be keen on remaining in Turin given how his time there is going so far.
