Mauricio Pochettino is now close to sealing his first signing at Chelsea as a deal for Manuel Ugarte nears completion.

A story from ESPN states that the transfer is close to being finalised, as Sporting CP encourage the 22-year-old to join Chelsea after receiving an enticing offer from the Blues.

Now – thanks to Record in Portugal – a date for Manuel Ugarte‘s medical has been revealed.

What’s the story?

Well – after the financial aspect of the deal was carried out, with Chelsea set to trigger the Uruguayan’s £52m release clause – it is now time for medical examinations to be prioritised.

Record believe Ugarte will travel to London for his medical with Chelsea next week, after agreeing to join Chelsea – despite PSG offering higher wages and also having European football on the schedule for next season.

Therefore – barring any disasters regarding the South American’s fitness levels – Chelsea fans should expect an official announcement perhaps late into next week, once all the medical tests have been completed.

In our view, the medical should not be an issue, as Ugarte – who was called a genius by his teammate Pedro Goncalves on Instagram – has been a near ever present for Sporting CP this season.

The Sporting CP No.15 made 44 appearances across all competitions in the 2022/23 campaign, with 41 of those coming as starts – he is exceptionally reliable.

Ugarte to Chelsea could kickstart overhaul

In our view, once Ugarte’s move to Chelsea is made official, we should start to see some outgoings at Stamford Bridge.

The likes of Mateo Kovacic – who is in talks to join Manchester City – are expected to depart, while Conor Gallagher is another who could leave, with talkSPORT stating that Chelsea are willing to cash in on the England international.

N’Golo Kante could also be leaving west London, as Fabrizio Romano believes clubs in Saudi Arabia want to sign the France international.

Be sure to keep an eye on further developments regarding Ugarte, as we expect plenty to happen once Chelsea officially announce the Uruguay international’s arrival.
