Chelsea almost missed out on Ajax No.20 Mohammed Kudus to Brighton – however, he could now be back on the market.

That is according to Voetbal International.

So, what is the latest on Chelsea target Mohammed Kudus? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well – according to Ben Jacobs – Chelsea were leading the race to sign the Ghana international this summer, and had offered him a more attractive salary package than rival sides.

On Saturday – however – David Ornstein of The Athletic revealed that Brighton had agreed a €40m (£35m) deal with Ajax for Kudus, and were close to shaking hands on personal terms with the attacker as well.

Now – according to VI in the Netherlands – the deal could be about to fall apart.

The Dutch news outlet explain that Kudus and Ajax are yet to reach an agreement on personal terms despite lengthy talks, and Ajax want the situation sorted as soon as possible.

In fact, the Eredivisie side have given Brighton 48 hours to iron the problems out, before they order the 23-year-old to stay for another season unless a truly massive bid arrives, one that far exceeds the current £35m sum.

Chelsea have second chance at Mohammed Kudus deal

If it wasn’t already obvious, a huge opportunity is staring Chelsea directly in the face if the Blues act within 48 hours.

The issue appears to be regarding personal terms, which gives Todd Boehly a chance to swoop in with a very enticing salary package, one strong enough to turn the Ghanaian’s head.

Just to sweeten the deal even further, Chelsea could even add a bit more onto Brighton’s £35m agreement with Ajax, perhaps offering £40m just to put themselves right at the front of the queue.

It is a crucial, delicate stage of the transfer saga involving Kudus, and Chelsea have to act immediately if they are serious about bringing the Brighton target to Stamford Bridge.
