Aston Villa come up with plan to stop Morgan Rogers from joining Chelsea this summer

Aston Villa will fight to keep hold of Morgan Rogers during this transfer window amid interest from Chelsea and other Premier League clubs.

Right now, Chelsea’s focus is on signing Xavi Simons, but Rogers is a player who remains on their radar.

Telegraph journalist Matt Law even thinks that Rogers would be Chelsea’s dream attacking signing. However, the Blues are going to find it extremely difficult to convince Villa to sell this summer by the looks of things.

As of now, the Villans have no plans to part ways with Rogers and are even trying to get him to sign a new contract.

Aston Villa ready to hand Morgan Rogers new contract amid Chelsea interest

Rogers still has five years remaining on his existing deal at Villa Park, but his current terms may no longer satisfy the attacking midfielder after an impressive 2024/25 season and Chelsea‘s interest.

According to The Athletic, Villa now intend to offer Rogers a new contract that reflects his status as one of the team’s most important players.

That could help fend off Chelsea’s interest now and keep the Englishman at the club for years to come.

With Rogers’ current deal not expiring until 2030, though, Villa are already in a strong position.

There were some PSR concerns that could have forced them to consider selling one of their most prized assets, but they have been eased after the club agreed to sell their women’s team to their parent company.

Chelsea sold their women’s team first so that they would not breach PSR regulations themselves, and Villa have now repeated that trick in a move that could help them to keep Rogers away from their Premier League rivals.

Morgan Rogers and Xavi Simons had very similar seasons

If Chelsea only end up with Simons, they can still be happy. The Dutchman and Rogers are not too different in terms of profile and had very similar seasons last term.

Both players are probably at their best when in the No.10 position, but they can also play out wide.

Given Villa’s stance, though, it would be quite a surprise if both attackers moved to Stamford Bridge this summer.
