Chelsea had a very productive transfer window during the summer, bringing in a host of new players.
Big money was spent to sign the likes of Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Nicolas Jackson. However, it appears that Mauricio Pochettino was not completely satisfied with his squad after the market had closed.
According to 90min, Pochettino was actually unhappy behind the scenes with the make-up of his Chelsea squad at the end of the summer transfer window.
The Blues could now fix things, though, with the Argentine stating after his side’s 2-0 loss to Everton on Sunday that the club will try to improve the team in January.
Since then, there has been a lot of speculation about Chelsea potentially signing a new striker, midfielder and defender when the transfer market reopens.
What did Chelsea get wrong in the summer?
Right now, you can say a lot. But their biggest regret will be not signing an experienced centre-forward.
Jackson has come in and done a decent job, scoring six goals in 15 league appearances. It is not bad for a 22-year-old who has just arrived in the country.
However, it is not enough for a team who want to get back into the Champions League. Chelsea probably needed someone more clinical and proven than Jackson, with the Senegal international coming in to support him rather than be the main man.
They can try to correct that next month, but it will not be easy. Who is going to want to sell their talisman in the middle of the season?
Chelsea have the money, but even that may not be enough to convince Napoli to sell Victor Osimhen to them, for example.
It means they may have to wait until the summer transfer window to fix this issue. The problem for Pochettino, though, is he may not make it to the end of the season without a goalscorer.
