Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli were Chelsea’s main competitors for Victor Osimhen in the final days of the summer transfer window.

Neither club managed to land Victor Osimhen in the end, with the striker going on to join Galatasaray on loan.

It has now emerged, though, that Chelsea and Al-Ahli were not the only teams chasing the 25-year-old towards the end of the transfer window.

The manager of Galatasaray’s fierce rivals Fenerbahce, Jose Mourinho, says he would sign Osimhen if he could.

AC Milan wanted to sign Victor Osimhen

Chelsea tried to sign Osimhen on deadline day, but it looks like AC Milan also made a late move for the Nigerian.

According to gianlucadimarzio.com, in the final days of the transfer window, Milan sensed an opportunity and tried to sign Osimhen from their Serie A rivals Napoli.

They failed but did manage to sign Alvaro Morata and Tammy Abraham, so the No.9 position did get strengthened.

Chelsea, on the other hand, did not even manage to bring in one experienced striker. It has left just Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu, who is only 18, as the only recognised centre-forwards in Enzo Maresca‘s squad.

Viktor Gyokeres could become a more attractive option than Victor Osimhen

The striker who is starting to catch everyone’s attention is Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres.

Gyokeres had a stunning 2023/24 campaign, scoring 43 goals in 50 appearances. The 26-year-old has carried that form into this season.

He scored in Sporting’s 2-0 win against Lille on Tuesday night and is already on nine goals in all competitions this term.

It would not be a surprise, then, if the likes of Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain focused on Gyokeres instead of Osimhen in the new year.

For now, though, the latter still appears to be a target for Chelsea. It has been claimed that Chelsea have told Osimhen their interest in him remains. Until a new striker arrives at Stamford Bridge, however, Jackson should continue leading the line for the Blues.
