Darren Bent responds when asked if he thinks Victor Osimhen will end up joining Chelsea

Darren Bent has suggested he doesn’t think Chelsea will end up signing a striker they’re frequently linked with.

Yet again, the No.9 position is a big talking point at Stamford Bridge this season.

The Blues failed to sign a big-name centre-forward in the summer window, so they’re left with Nicolas Jackson as their main target man. Meanwhile, 18-year-old youngster Marc Guiu is an alternative option to lead the line, or versatile attackers such as Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix.

Incidentally, journalist Fabrizio Romano reported via YouTube recently that Chelsea believe Jackson’s value has shot up in the last year.

Enzo Maresca’s side do continue to be linked with strikers in the transfer rumour mill. Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray on loan in the summer, continues to receive many links with Chelsea.

Journalist Simon Phillips claimed via Substack last week that Chelsea are already weighing up a January move to sign Osimhen because there’s a break clause in his loan at Galatasaray.

TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent has suggested he doesn’t think Osimhen will end up signing for Chelsea in the New Year despite transfer links all summer.

When asked if Osimhen could ever end up joining the Blues, Bent told talkSPORT (6:44pm, 9 September): “I don’t know. Depends, doesn’t it? He is on loan at Galatasaray, if he goes and scores a lot of goals as I expect him to, then do Chelsea really want to revisit? I am not quite sure.”

Victor Osimhen will now cost £63m

You can make a strong argument for Chelsea making a fresh swoop for Osimhen, 25, in the summer window. The Nigeria international is a prolific forward who ticks so many boxes.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed via X that Napoli have now inserted a new £63m release clause in Osimhen’s deal. On paper, that looks like a potential bargain for any potential buyers because he scored 76 goals in 133 games for Napoli.

Speaking via The Rest Is Football back in January, Gary Lineker hailed Osimhen as an “incredibly quick” forward.

We’ll wait and see how he performs in Turkey for loan club Galatasaray, but we can totally understand if Chelsea push hard to bring him to west London in 2025.
