With the transfer deadline fast approaching, Chelsea are still trying to sign a new striker.

Heading into deadline day, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Brentford’s Ivan Toney were Chelsea‘s two main targets.

However, Al-Ahli’s pursuit of the two forwards has complicated things for the Blues, who now appear to be considering other options.

And two of those alternatives, like Toney, are Premier League players. Chelsea were weighing up a bid for Toney, but he now looks unlikely to move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea considering Brighton & Hove Albion’s Evan Ferguson

Chelsea have done a lot of shopping at Brighton & Hove Albion since being taken over by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

The Blues signed both Robert Sanchez and Marc Cucurella from the Seagulls and seem to be interested in another footballer who has played at the Amex Stadium.

According to The Times, Chelsea are looking at Evan Ferguson, as well as Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran.

In January, a report from the Evening Standard claimed that Brighton valued Ferguson at more than £100m. The Blues will not pay that kind of money for the 19-year-old if the Seagulls do still value him at over £100m.

Evan Ferguson to Chelsea unlikely

Given how late it is in the transfer window and how highly Brighton rate Ferguson, it really is hard to imagine Chelsea signing him today.

Someone like Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin seems way more likely. It has already been suggested that Chelsea could go in for Calvert-Lewin before the transfer deadline tonight.

Having chased Osimhen for so long, Chelsea supporters will probably be disappointed if the club ended up with the Everton man or Ferguson instead.

The club have had the whole summer to sign a top striker but find themselves in this position. At least they have still managed to strengthen their attack by bringing in Pedro Neto and Joao Felix, but a forward such as Osimhen would be the icing on the cake.
