£40m Premier League player is currently staying at his club, but Chelsea could still move

Going into deadline day, Chelsea were being linked with quite a few strikers, including a couple from the Premier League.

Brentford’s Ivan Toney, for example, was thought to be a target for Chelsea, but he is now close to joining Al-Ahli.

Al-Ahli could also sign Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, another centre-forward who has been on the Blues’ shortlist this summer. Chelsea could yet land Osimhen but, as of now, he seems to be heading to Saudi Arabia.

If the Blues fail to sign either striker, which now looks likely, then they could turn to Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could become an option for Chelsea

It was recently claimed that Chelsea could look to recruit Calvert-Lewin if they missed out on Osimhen.

Journalist Jacob Steinberg has hinted that it could become a possibility but, as things stand, the 27-year-old is likely to remain at Goodison Park.

Chelsea’s search for a new striker has become a really complicated one. It would now not be a surprise if they failed to sign one today.

However, the Blues could still end up strengthening their attack by bringing in Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho. Chelsea want Raheem Sterling out and Sancho in before the end of the day.

Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin join Chelsea on deadline day?

It is probably more likely that Chelsea just go with Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu than sign Calvert-Lewin.

He is not their first or second-choice option and is not even going to come cheap. Back in June, Sky Sports claimed that Everton wanted £40m for him.

It may not be worth paying all of that money for someone whom the club are not even desperate to sign, while his injury record is also a bit of a concern.

It would be helpful if another centre-forward was added to Enzo Maresca‘s squad. But Chelsea fans will probably not be praying for Calvert-Lewin to arrive at Stamford Bridge.
