It looks like Chelsea recently missed out on signing one player from Barcelona.

Chelsea have been linked with Jules Kounde, but it appears that the defender is not the only Barcelona star who has been on their radar.

The Blues did have some success when trying to do business with the Catalan club last summer.

They were able to sign Marc Guiu, who has made 13 appearances and scored six goals in all competitions for Chelsea this season.

Marc Casado turned down Chelsea’s offer

Despite having Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, Chelsea seemingly wanted to sign Marc Casado from Barcelona last summer.

Caicedo has shone this term, but Enzo Maresca could have perhaps still done with another defensive midfielder arriving because of Romeo Lavia’s injury problems, which have not gone away.

That defensive midfielder could have been Casado, with ElDesmarque claiming that Chelsea made an offer to the 21-year-old.

However, according to the same outlet, Casado had “no interest” in joining Maresca’s side.

Since then, Chelsea have gone on to sign Mathis Amougou, who has played as a defensive midfielder. Maresca will be hoping to have Lavia back soon, nevertheless.

The Belgian has been out since January, not playing since his side’s 3-1 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Chelsea are still interested in signing Marc Casado

Chelsea have not given up on bringing in Casado it seems. It is believed that Chelsea have made another attempt to sign Casado ahead of the next transfer window.

If the Blues watched his latest performance for Barcelona, they would have liked what they saw.

He was excellent for Hansi Flick’s side over the weekend, helping them to beat Real Sociedad 4-0. Casado even chipped in with a goal and managed to make four tackles in total, according to Sofascore.

With Chelsea already in possession of Andrey Santos and Lesley Ugochukwu, though, it would be a surprise if midfield was a priority for them. They could easily give one of the two a spot in the first team instead of signing a new player for the engine room.
