David Datro Fofana has become a bit of a forgotten man at Chelsea. However, he’s involved in some late drama on deadline day.

Signed by Chelsea in 2023, David Datro Fofana has had numerous spells away from Stamford Bridge on loan. The 22-year-old striker has been part of the bomb squad at Cobham this summer, which has been made up of unwanted players not involved in the first-team plans.

Premier League side Wolves considered a move for Fofana earlier in the transfer window, but nothing ever came of their interest. Meanwhile, Toulouse ended their pursuit for Fofana because he was too expensive.

However, the young centre-forward may have been thrown a lifeline on Monday’s deadline.

David Datro Fofana’s move to Charlton hinges on deal sheet

Journalist Nizaar Kinsella has reported via X on Monday night that Championship side Charlton Athletic have agreed a season-long loan deal to sign Chelsea’s Fofana.

The late twist is that they face an anxious wait on the deal sheet to see if it was submitted in time.

Preston and Charlton made late enquiries for Fofana, so let’s wait and see if the latter have wrapped up the deal in time.

Charlton, who sit 16th in the Championship at the moment, could be a great fit for the Ivory Coast frontman. The reality is he should do very well in the second division if he stays fit and gets regular minutes.

Chelsea bring back Marc Guiu as striker cover

While Fofana is waiting to hear if his Charlton loan is happening, Chelsea have recalled central striker Marc Guiu from his loan at Sunderland to reinforce the frontline.

Guiu, 19, could now be presented with a surprise opportunity to impress in Chelsea’s first team.

Following Liam Delap’s injury against Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday, the Blues have acted firmly to bring back the Spanish youngster.
