Chelsea opted against signing £84m player

Chelsea were not too keen on forking out on one centre-forward during the summer transfer window.

Chelsea did want to sign a striker, making Victor Osimhen their main target. However, they could not lure him to Stamford Bridge in the end.

Chelsea saw their talks for Osimhen collapse on deadline day, and it remains to be seen if they will go back in for him in January.

Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres is another option for Chelsea or any top European club looking for a No.9, though it seems the Blues have had some doubts about the 26-year-old in the past.

Chelsea were not interested in doing Viktor Gyokeres deal

Gyokeres was in incredible form for Sporting last season, netting 43 times in 50 appearances.

However, it has been reported that Chelsea were put off by the Swede’s value. According to GiveMeSport, the Blues decided not to pursue a deal for Gyokeres because of his price tag.

Gyokeres has confirmed that there is a €100m (£83.5m) release clause in his contract.

It is a lot of money, but Chelsea may eventually decide to go to the table. It has been claimed that Chelsea are now actually open to signing Gyokeres in 2025, with his fine start this season perhaps changing their stance.

Chelsea’s stance on Viktor Gyokeres could continue to soften

Last season was the first where Gyokeres truly performed at a high level. With that in mind, it is understandable that Chelsea did not want to spend nearly £85m on him.

However, Gyokeres is proving that he is no one-season wonder this term. In eight games, he already has 11 goals.

If the Sweden international keeps this up, it really would not be a surprise to see Chelsea’s stance soften even more.

Nicolas Jackson has also found some early form in the new campaign, scoring twice against West Ham United over the weekend.

Gary Lineker was impressed with Jackson’s display on the day and if he puts in more performances like that, perhaps there will not be a need for Gyokeres or Osimhen.
