Chelsea target who kept Harry Kane quiet last season is going to make a decision on his future ‘soon’

Chelsea could be about to find out what one of their reported targets plans to do with his career.

Everything is pointing towards Chelsea signing a new central defender this month, with Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile both out injured.

Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi looks to be at the top of Chelsea’s list as they consider making a move for the 24-year-old.

However, Guehi does not appear to be the only centre-back on the Blues’ radar.

Bayer Leverkusen star Jonathan Tah set to make decision on his future

Another centre-back who has been linked to Chelsea is Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

In November, it was claimed that Chelsea had actually made Tah one of their top targets.

Tah has also been linked to Barcelona, but the German has made it clear that nothing has been agreed with the Catalan club, though a decision on his future is imminent.

On his future, he said: “As of now, nothing has been decided. I am fully focused on being successful with Leverkusen. I will make my decision soon — and once I have, I will communicate it.”

While Chelsea would ideally like to sign a centre-half now, Tah may fancy remaining at Leverkusen until the end of the season before joining another club on a free transfer.

Jonathan Tah kept Harry Kane quiet last season

Harry Kane is the best striker in the Bundesliga and perhaps the best in the world. However, the former Tottenham Hotspur star met his match when he came up against Tah in Bayern’s 3-0 defeat to Leverkusen last season.

For once, Kane was unable to get his name on the scoresheet after being kept quiet by Tah and the rest of Leverkusen’s defence.

The 28-year-old had a solid game, finishing with a Sofascore rating of 7.3. Kane finished on 6.7 after registering just one shot in the match.

That day, Tah won four out of five aerial duels and was only dribbled past once.

Without him, Xabi Alonso’s men may not have won the Bundesliga title undefeated. If Chelsea can bring Tah to Stamford Bridge this month, then they should.
