Chelsea have suggested throwing in David Datro Fofana as part of a deal to sign an English striker from their Premier League rivals on deadline day.
Blues fans are anxiously waiting to see if the club can bring in a new No.9 before the close of the summer transfer window on Friday night.
Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen have been the high-profile forwards heavily linked with a possible switch to Stamford Bridge this week. However, Sky Sports’ Paul Gilmour reports on Friday’s deadline day that Al-Ahli have agreed a £40m deal to sign Toney ahead of an imminent medical.
The Sun previously claimed that Chelsea could turn to Everton’s Dominic Calver-Lewin if they don’t sign Osimhen. There’s now been an update about the potential Blues interest in the 27-year-old English striker.

Chelsea suggest David Datro Fofana plus cash for Dominic Calvert-Lewin
According to journalist Ben Jacobs via X, Chelsea have held talks with league rivals Everton about Dominic Calvert-Lewin in case they they don’t land Osimhen.
It is explained that Enzo Maresca’s side have actually suggested offering their attacker David Datro Fofana plus cash for Calvert-Lewin’s signature. However, Merseyside club Everton showed little willingness to engage in that idea.
In terms of Fofana, it’s hard to imagine him getting a look-in at Chelsea anytime soon. Therefore, getting the 21-year-old striker out the door before the deadline closes makes sense.
Unfortunately, Calvert-Lewin to Chelsea in the final hours of the summer screams panic buy.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is not the answer
Calvert-Lewin has shown glimpses of star quality throughout his Everton career, scoring 68 goals in 249 first-team appearances for them. In fact, Carlo Ancelotti described him as “fantastic” back in 2021 via Everton’s official website.
However, the centre-forward has never kicked on to elite heights, with injuries certainly playing a role in that. He was actually largely unaffected by injury problems last season, but he only scored eight goals in 38 games for the Toffees.
We suspect a push to sign Calvert-Lewin would really split the fanbase if it happens.
