Romelu Lukaku is now opening up to the idea of staying at Chelsea – however, Mauricio Pochettino has other ideas.

That is according to Marco Conterio of Tutto Mercato Web.

So, what is the latest on Chelsea and Romelu Lukaku? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Belgian has caused quite the stir at Stamford Bridge this week.

A story from Corriere dello Sport claimed that Lukaku was ready to take lawyers with him to speak to Todd Boehly about leaving Chelsea for Inter Milan.

The Italian giants are keen to strike another loan deal, although Conterio believes Chelsea do not want to entertain another temporary move.

There is an offer from Saudi Arabia on the table, although the 30-year-old is not interested.

It was even said that Lukaku will ‘beat his firsts on the table’ to demand an exit.

That appears to have annoyed Pochettino.

Conterio explains how Lukaku is now showing a willingness to stay in west London as a return to Inter Milan doesn’t look likely.

However, Pochettino ‘has other ideas’ – according to the Italian journalist – which suggests he is not interested in reintegrating the Belgium international.

Al-Ahli have since improved their offer to sign Lukaku, and he is now said to be giving a move to Saudi Arabia more considersation.

Lukaku should leave Chelsea

Hopefully, something does materialise between Al-Ahli and Lukaku, as the striker needs to leave Chelsea – he has burned his bridges.

Ally McCoist claimed on talkSPORT that Pochettino should get rid of the Antwerp-born forward to ensure there is a positive dressing room environment next season, adding that Lukaku’s heart doesn’t seem to be in it at Chelsea after that famous interview about Inter Milan in 2021.

Graeme Souness even called the Belgian “disrespectful” after hearing those remarkable comments.

Lukaku could be decent under Pochettino next season, but with young talents such as Armando Broja, Christopher Nkunku and the incoming Nicolas Jackson in the Argentine’s attack, it is time to move the 30-year-old on.
