Chelsea could face competition from Italian giants AC Milan for one specific transfer target.

Lille striker Jonathan David, 23, is a player linked with a potential move to Stamford Bridge next year.

Journalist Simon Phillips reported via his Substack last month that Chelsea do have David in their sights as an option for to fill their No 9 position. The Ligue 1 centre-forward is named as one of several individuals looked at by Mauricio Pochettino’s side, though.

We’ll now wait and see if the Blues do decide to ramp up interest in Lille’s attacker.

Rival interest

Interestingly, journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided some fresh news regarding Lille’s frontman.

Apparently, Serie A club Milan consider David as one of their main targets to bring to Serie A. It’s worth noting they’ll have to wait until next summer until they try to sign him.

“Jonathan David remains one of the top targets for AC Milan for 2024,” Romano wrote on X.

“Deal could only be feasible in summer window due to price tag and with 12 months left in his current deal, it allows good chances for AC Milan to sign him.

“He’s also on three Premier League clubs list.”

Jonathan David form

It was a fantastic 2022/23 season for David at Lille, scoring 26 goals in 40 games across all competitions.

Unfortunately, it’s been a bit of a slower start for him this campaign. He’s got four goals in 18 matches across all competition so far for the French club.

Jeunes Footeux claimed last year that Chelsea were interested in signing £52million-rated star David. There’s no line from the aforementioned reports about how much he could cost in 2024, though.

In our view, Chelsea would be wise to go out and bring a high-profile forward to the club. They can only really start being a threat again once they find that 20-goal attacker.

There’s certainly big potential, who’s got 25 goals in 42 Canada caps on the international stage, but he certainly wouldn’t be high up on our preferred stiker targets.
