Chelsea signed Pedro Neto and Joao Felix during the summer transfer window, two clients of super-agent Jorge Mendes.

And according to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea also spoke to Jorge Mendes about another client of his at Real Madrid.

It was an extremely busy summer for the Blues, who also brought in the likes of Jadon Sancho, Filip Jorgensen, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Tosin Adarabioyo on top of Neto and Felix.

Chelsea signed Adarabioyo on a free transfer from Fulham, but it has been claimed that Todd Boehly isn’t convinced with Adarabioyo.

Chelsea spoke to Jorge Mendes about Andriy Lunin

Chelsea wanted to bring in a new goalkeeper over the summer and ended up with Jorgensen, signing the 22-year-old from Villarreal.

Before landing Jorgensen, the Blues were linked with Andriy Lunin, but despite discussing the Real Madrid star’s name with Mendes, Romano says they never made a serious attempt to sign him.

Speaking about Lunin on his YouTube channel, the transfer expert said: “There were rumours about Chelsea, but Chelsea never really entered into concrete talks for Andriy Lunin. So they spoke to his agent Jorge Mendes, who did several things with Chelsea this summer, for example, Joao Felix, Pedro Neto.

“So in these conversations, Lunin was a topic but never a concrete negotiation, never even an official bid.”

Chelsea went into this season with Robert Sanchez and Jorgensen as their first and second-choice goalkeepers. Jorgensen picked up an injury while on national duty so could miss the Blues’ next game.

Filip Jorgensen could develop into a better goalkeeper than Andriy Lunin

Chelsea will be happy with their purchase of Jorgensen, who only cost the club around £20m.

Jorgensen has the potential to surpass Lunin. Last season, for example, Jorgensen recorded a 72.2% save percentage in La Liga, which was slightly lower than Lunin’s (75.4%), according to FBref.

However, Lunin is three years older than Jorgensen and will stop developing for as long as he remains at Real Madrid now that Thibaut Courtois is fit again.

By the time Jorgensen is 25, based on what he showed at Villarreal, he could have surpassed Lunin. He will need to oust Sanchez out of the Chelsea first team first, though, with the former Villarreal man facing the same problem Lunin is dealing with now: being second-choice goalkeeper.

Enzo Maresca wants Sanchez in goal for league games at this moment in time.
