Fabrizio Romano shuts down talk of Chelsea signing striker ‘on another level’ despite rumours

Chelsea supporters will be desperate for their club to sign a new centre-forward.

With the transfer window about to close, though, a new No.9 arriving at Stamford Bridge seems virtually impossible now.

Liam Delap is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury, while Nicolas Jackson is set to join Bayern Munich.

The Blues had been linked with one forward from Serie A, but that rumour was quickly shut down by the reliable Fabrizio Romano.

Chelsea not interested in AC Milan star Santiago Gimenez

Conflicting posts have emerged about Chelsea and AC Milan forward Santiago Gimenez.

Gianluca Di Marzio initially posted on X that Chelsea were thinking about signing Gimenez as they look to solve their striker dilemma.

However, that claim was quickly rebuked by Romano, who simply stated that the Blues are not interested in the Mexico international.

With Chelsea not signing Gimenez or any other centre-forward, Enzo Maresca will have to rely on just Joao Pedro and Marc Guiu until Liam Delap returns from injury.

On Sunday, news of Chelsea potentially recalling Guiu from his loan at Sunderland broke. Since then, it has been widely reported that the 19-year-old is set to return to west London.

Santiago Gimenez could have been a smart deal for Chelsea

Gimenez has not done too badly at Milan, while he was quite successful at former club Feyenoord.

In his final full season there, Gimenez scored 26 goals in 41 appearances. Twenty-three of his goals came in the Eredivisie.

Earlier this year, Zlatan Ibrahimovic described the former Feyenoord man as a forward “on another level” when talking to DAZN (via World Soccer Talk) about him.

Ultimately, Gimenez probably could have done a job for Chelsea. On a short-term deal or for a reasonable fee, he could have been a shrewd bit of business.

Hopefully, Pedro and Guiu are enough for Maresca and the Italian does not miss Delap too much. If the former stays fit and continues scoring goals, the Blues will be just fine.
