Chelsea supporters will be eager to see how active they are in January now that this month’s transfer window is open.
It definitely feels like the Chelsea squad is in a healthy place right now. In fact, Enzo Maresca deserves credit in his role as the Blues manager in rotating players quite successfully in the first half of the season.
However, let’s wait and see if any first-team names end up leaving over a frustration with their lack of minutes.

Chelsea defender Axel Disasi attracting interest
Respected journalist Simon Phillips has claimed via Substack that there’s now been tentative interest from several teams for Chelsea’s Axel Disasi.
It is explained that sides from France and Italy have initiated contact for the French defender. Also, an unnamed Premier League club has made an enquiry for the 26-year-old Chelsea player in January.
Apparently, Disasi is available to sign this month, but he won’t be forced out of Stamford Bridge. In a similar way, the centre-back is looking to leave Chelsea in the New Year, but it’s unclear on if he’ll actively push a transfer exit in this window.
Disasi, who joined the Blues in the summer of 2023, was an important player during his debut season with the club. Gary Lineker described Chelsea’s Disasi as “fantastic” last season after his performance versus Manchester City.
However, he’s slipped down the pecking order during his second campaign since Maresca took charge in the manager’s dugout. In fact, the central defender is often covering out of position at right-back.
| Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Conference League | 6 | 1 | 2 |
| Premier League | 5 | 1 | 0 |
| Conference League qualifiers | 2 | 0 | 0 |
| Carabao Cup | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Disasi should have played his last Chelsea game because there’s plenty of defensive options in the squad, so letting him go makes sense for all parties. Will the right suitor be found midway through the season during January, though?
Bayern Munich have looked at Chelsea defender Disasi, but it now sounds like he may have the opportunity to stay in England with a Premier League rival.
Axel Disasi has been a costly mistake
Chelsea splashed out £39m (Sky Sports) to sign Disasi from Monaco nearly 18 months ago, which is now looking like quite an expensive error.
His versatility and experience does come in useful with the current young group, so it’s no surprise he’s captained the club at times in cup competitions. However, he’s not at the level required to compete at the top of the Premier League, particularly when he’s starting at right-back.
The Blues should accept they’ll need to take take a loss on Disasi and try to move him on in January. If he’s given the chance at centre-half at a mid-level Premier League club, he could still carve out a decent career in English football.
