‘Magnificent’ Chelsea target ready to make step up this summer, he’s been an absolute nightmare for Blues’ defence

Chelsea have been handed a boost in their bid to sign one target this summer.

The Blues are expected to buy a new centre-forward when the transfer window reopens, with Enzo Maresca‘s squad lacking in that department.

Christopher Nkunku and Marc Guiu have been providing cover for Chelsea‘s first-choice striker Nicolas Jackson, but the former is not a natural No.9, while the latter is still only 19 years old.

Chelsea could now sign Liam Delap to boost their options up front, but he is not the only forward the club are currently considering.

Alexander Isak ready to make step up

Unsurprisingly, Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak is also on Chelsea’s radar. The 25-year-old has been in incredible form this season, scoring 17 goals in 23 Premier League appearances.

According to Sport, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Barcelona all want him and he has the “ambition” to make a step up this summer.

However, the same outlet claims that Newcastle qualifying for the Champions League would complicate things for interested parties.

The Magpies are currently seventh in the table, just three points behind fourth.

How much could Alexander Isak cost?

In the past, it has been claimed that Newcastle would demand in excess of £150m for Isak.

Sport’s report, though, says Isak could cost something closer to €100m (£83m). At that price, Chelsea should be all over the Swede.

He has really proven himself in England and against the Blues specifically. Chelsea defenders have not been able to cope with him since his arrival at St James’ Park.

In five games against Chelsea, Isak has scored four goals, including two this season.

“His all round game is magnificent,” Newcastle legend Alan Shearer said on BBC Match of the Day (via BBC Sport) last month. “He is creating so many opportunities, getting shots away. His first touch is fantastic.

“I think there are three world class forwards in the Premier League. Erling Haaland being one. Mohamed Salah being another and Isak the third.”

Newcastle are definitely not going to want to sell Isak, but perhaps PSR could present Chelsea with an opportunity to snatch the Sweden international away from their Premier League rivals. He will certainly be a name to keep an eye on during the summer transfer window.
