Matt Law has claimed on the ‘London is Blue’ podcast that Graham Potter has given the green light to Chelsea moving for Enzo Fernandez again.
The Blues were reportedly pushing for an agreement with Benfica earlier this month, as they prepared for a potential midfield exodus at the end of the season.
Both N’golo Kante and Jorginho currently have deals that expire this summer, and there are no guarantees that either will resign.
There is however reports of an expectation that they will be able to keep the Frenchman after recent talks.
Their attempts to sign World Cup hero Fernandez were seemingly stumped after it was claimed they bidded way lower than the release clause of around £106m that would leave the Portuguese side no choice.
Potter wants Fernandez
Nevertheless, Law has claimed that another offer could come in soon, with Potter on board with the potential signing.
He said: “They [Chelsea] may well make another bid [for Enzo Fernandez] I think despite all the criticism from Benfica, but they aren’t going to get as high as the clause. Graham Potter is very much on board with the move.”
Not getting the deal done this month will certainly open up the opportunity for another elite side to negotiate, or even trigger the release clause in the player’s contract.
The summer looks set to see many of the most promising midfielders in the world make moves, with it imperative for Chelsea that they get at least one of them in for next season.
England duo Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice will almost certainly be on the move, with both certainly already having the ability to significantly strengthen things in the middle of the park.
There is potential that one of them could partner Denis Zakaria going forwards, with him surely set to join permanently based on his current form.
