Chelsea signed 11 players during the summer transfer window, and it could quite easily have been 12 if a move for Victor Osimhen would have come off.
Enzo Maresca has Nicolas Jackson leading the line for Chelsea after their failed pursuit of Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window.
Marc Guiu and Joao Felix joined in the summer but neither have really had too many opportunities to impress, and Guiu as the more out-and-out striker lacks experience.
However, things haven’t gone badly with Jackson, as he’s developed his finishing ability, which has surprised Craig Burley already this season.
But, it remains to be seen as to whether Chelsea may opt to sign another striker in January to offer more competition and provide an out-and-out back-up option.
Interestingly, Michael Emenalo has been speaking out about the truth behind Victor Osimhen‘s pursuit in the summer, as the chief of the Saudi Pro League.

Michael Emanalo shares the truth behind Victor Osimhen and Chelsea
Michael Emenalo was the Chelsea technical director from 2011-2017. However, he’s now transitioned into a role as the Sporting Director of the Saudi Pro League.
Interestingly, Chelsea and the Saudi Pro League were battling to secure the services of Victor Osimhen in the summer, which ended up with both parties coming away empty handed.
He ended up joining Galatasaray on loan after talks broke down over a late deal.
Now, Michael Emenalo has shared the truth behind the Osimhen situation whilst speaking to John Obi Mikel on his podcast.
“I think maybe in some clubs’ minds and planning they thought they were close. What being close means is different for me than for the clubs.
“Because for me it’s close when the paperwork come through my desk and you know requires my valuation and signature. Until that happens, then it is not close.
“And that didn’t happen. But there was obviously clear interest. You know I thought my former club would get him, because you know he’s a terrific player.”
Can Chelsea move for Victor Osimhen in January?
Interestingly, it has been claimed that Chelsea are one club who can sign Osimhen thanks to a break clause, though there may be plenty of competition.
Osimhen has continued his fine form over in Turkey, scoring two goals and providing four assists in just four games, so there could still be that potential interest.
The one issue for Enzo Maresca would be deciding between Nicolas Jackson and Osimhen, as they’re the type of players who won’t want to be both battling for a starting place, as they’re too good for that.
Regardless, Chelsea fans won’t be too happy that they couldn’t come to a compromise with Osimhen. Saudi and Emenalo were never close, and Emenalo even thought he’d end up at Stamford Bridge, meaning it was pretty much a free run at him.
