Premier League club still retain an interest in signing £50m Chelsea player

Chelsea’s £50m player is reportedly still on the transfer radar of a rival Premier League club.

Chelsea haven’t been afraid of conducting business with Premier League teams in recent times. For instance, they sold the likes of Ian Maatsen (Aston Villa), Lewis Hall (Newcastle United) and Omari Hutchinson (Ipswich Town) in the summer.

On top of that, current Blues players out on loan include Raheem Sterling (Arsenal), Lesley Ugochukwu (Southampton), Armando Broja (Southampton), Trevoh Chalobah (Crystal Palace) and Kepa Arrizabalaga (Bournemouth).

Manchester United eye Ben Chilwell

According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United ‘retain an interest’ in signing Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell.

Premier League giants Man United were linked with a move for Chelsea left-back Chilwell in the summer. Eventually, the 27-year-old player ended up staying put at Stamford Bridge.

The Independent claimed back in August that Man United were in discussions about signing Chilwell. Instead, Jadon Sancho ended up moving the other way by leaving Old Trafford and signing for Chelsea on loan with an obligation to buy.

He needs January move

Chilwell, who joined Chelsea for £50m (Sky Sports) back in 2020 from Leicester City, has been a great player for the club. Let’s not forget that the English defender was part of the famous side that won the Champions League back in 2021.

Unfortunately, he no longer fits the plan of Blues head coach Enzo Maresca. While it was great to see him make his first appearance of the season recently in the League Cup, it’s quite obvious that he’s behind both Marc Cucurella and Renato Veiga in the left-back pecking order.

We were surprised that he couldn’t get himself a move in the previous window, but he’s rumoured to be in the sights of clubs.

The Sun previously claimed that Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town are both monitoring Chilwell ahead of January. We’d argue he’s good enough to go into the Man United side and help them with a better balance, though.
