Report: 28-year-old has changed his mind, now he wants to join Chelsea
Reports have claimed that Memphis Depay has come round to the idea of joining Chelsea.
According to AS via SportWitness, the Barcelona man is wanted out of his club, and could see Chelsea as a potential landing spot.
The Blues were extremely interested in raiding Barcelona in the final days of the transfer window.
After multiple hours of negotiations, the club ended up with the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as an attacking asset, with Marcos Alonso going the other way.
The former Blues left-back has certainly had his personal struggles since joining up with Xavi’s side. He has had to learn how to play centre-back in order to cover their injury woes.
Aubameyang meanwhile is struggling to show the form he did when he was firing as a forward for rivals Arsenal.
Depay interested in Chelsea move
He looked set to do so, with a goal in each of the important Champions League fixtures against AC Milan seemingly showing he still had enough about him to be an important asset up front.
However, just one Premier League goal has left Graham Potter looking to his other options to solve the issue up top.
He may be handed a new solution as early as January, just a couple of games back into the season after the World Cup break.
AS claim that Depay would now be open to a move to Chelsea, due to their place in the knockout stage of the Champions League.
Barcelona were of course knocked out of the competition in the groups.
When Chelsea were looking to sign Aubameyang, they also made efforts to sign Depay. However, it was not too close to getting over the line.
Now though, with no obvious goalscorer at Stamford Bridge, a move for Depay could make sense to try and bring goals back to Chelsea.
