What Chelsea plan to do this week to try and sign Ivan Toney from Brentford

Chelsea are interested in signing Ivan Toney from Brentford before the transfer market shuts on Friday, but they could end up running into a little bit of a problem.

With Victor Osimhen not through the door, Chelsea are having to consider other forward options, such as Ivan Toney.

It has been claimed that Osimhen can imagine life under Enzo Maresca, but there is just no guarantee that he will be joining the Blues because of the finances involved in the deal.

If not, then Chelsea may end up going all out for Toney’s signature, with an offer potentially arriving soon.

How much Chelsea plan to offer for Ivan Toney

Toney is into the final year of his contract, but Brentford still want big money for their talisman.

According to The Guardian, Brentford want £50m for Toney, but it does not look like they are going to get that from Chelsea.

The same outlet claims that the Blues’ initial offer for the 28-year-old will be significantly lower than that.

Whether that actually goes in, though, remains to be seen. If Chelsea sign Osimhen, you suspect that their interest in Toney will cool. Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali is doing what he can to land Osimhen.

Should Chelsea pay £50m for Ivan Toney?

Chelsea will be reluctant to pay £50m for Toney. The England international turns 29 next year and is into the final year of his contract.

However, Enzo Maresca could do with having another centre-forward in his squad, and Toney has proven to be a very good one in the last few seasons.

He scored 20 goals back in the 2022/23 Premier League campaign, which included a brace against Manchester City.

In this day and age, £50m does not seem like that much money, especially for a top Premier League striker.

If Chelsea cannot sign Osimhen, then they should pay it and give Nicolas Jackson the competition that he is currently lacking at Stamford Bridge.
