Malo Gusto was a key player for Chelsea last season, but he is now being linked with a move away from west London.
It was recently claimed that Enzo Maresca has asked Manchester City to sign Gusto this summer.
Maresca relied on Gusto heavily during his time as Chelsea manager, with the defender often filling in for Reece James when the England international was injured.
Who would you rather see at left-back next season, Jorrel Hato or Lewis Hall?
Hall is being linked with a return to Chelsea following Marc Cucurella's move to Real Madrid 🇪🇸
Malo Gusto’s agent is speaking to a few clubs about Chelsea defender
Gusto could have quite a few options in the transfer window, not just City.
Journalist Simon Phillips has reported on his Substack Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that Gusto’s agent has been in talks with a few clubs about a potential move.
James’ fitness has really improved, while Chelsea deem Josh Acheampong untouchable, which means he could get more game time next season. The 20-year-old can play at both right-back and centre-back.
The above could result in Gusto’s game time decreasing, so that is something that the Frenchman may be thinking about right now.
Of course, his main focus will be on the World Cup. He was an unused substitute in France’s 3-1 win against Senegal on Tuesday.
Xabi Alonso won’t want Malo Gusto to be sold
Xabi Alonso has just lost Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid; he will not want to lose another important full-back.
Why shouldn’t Alvaro Carreras replace Marc Cucurella? He looks ideal!
The Real Madrid star is one left-back Chelsea are thought to be considering after Cucurella's exit 💭
Gusto could be especially useful if the new Chelsea boss decides to use a 3-4-2-1 formation as he did at Bayer Leverkusen.
Gusto has the energy and stamina to get up and down the pitch, while his crossing is not bad. It helped him to record nine assists in his first season at Chelsea. That is excellent for a full-back.
The noise coming out of Chelsea, though, is that Gusto is not one of their untouchables. Therefore, a sale should not be ruled out.
The former Lyon man is one Chelsea player to keep an eye on between now and the end of the transfer window.
