Chelsea’s Axel Disasi is set to complete a move to Aston Villa in the very final stages of the mid-season transfer window.

During a busy deadline day for the winter window, the future of Axel Disasi has been a significant story gathering pace at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea defender Disasi is set to join Aston Villa on loan after the Premier League clubs finally reached an agreement on a temporary deal until the end of the season. Tottenham made a late move for Blues centre-back Disasi, but it looks like they’re missing out on his signature.

Whether Aston Villa have the option to buy Axel Disasi from Chelsea

According to ESPN, Chelsea’s Disasi is joining Villa as another signing for them on deadline day.

Apparently, there is no option or obligation to make the 26-year-old’s move permanent in the summer. The report adds that Villa will pay the entirety of his wages as well.

Disasi is still under contract with the Blues until the summer of 2029, so they’ll need to revisit his future at the end of the season. Hopefully, he’s a lot more attractive for suitors in the transfer market by then after a successful stint at Villa Park.

Disasi didn’t feel he was playing enough at Chelsea, making 17 appearances across all competitions this season. It’ll be interesting to see if the aggressive centre-half can force his way into Villa’s starting line-up under Unai Emery.

Axel Disasi has failed at Chelsea

When you consider that Chelsea spent £39m (Sky Sports) to sign Disasi from Monaco in the summer of 2023, it’s pretty damning that he’s being shipped out on loan just 18 months later.

The French defender showed in patches under Mauricio Pochettino his quality in the backline. However, his second season under Enzo Maresca’s management has been a lot harder because he slipped down the pecking order.

We’d be amazed if the Blues managed to get a decent transfer fee for him further down the line. Hopefully, he can build his reputation back up in the Midlands during the second half of the campaign.

Disasi will bring leadership and a physicality to the Villa side, but he’s got to cut out the lapses in concentration that lead to unnecessary errors.
