Chelsea certainly had an extremely busy transfer window this summer, but they still actually missed out on some big names that would’ve helped them.
Chelsea made several new signings for their first-team squad. They’ve added the likes of Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, Filip Jorgensen, Pedro Neto and Joao Felix to the senior group.
On top of that, the Blues secured the signing of Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho on a season-long loan on Friday’s deadline day, although it’s not been officially confirmed yet. Interestingly, Man United fans are raging there’s a £25m obligation to buy clause.
Despite all the new faces, Chelsea could’ve been a bit more selective and smart with their purchases. In particular, we feel that missing out on a proven No.9 could be something they regret in the coming months.

Victor Osimhen
Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is someone who was linked with Chelsea right down to the last moments of the summer window. Unfortunately, the Blues couldn’t get this deal over the line.
Journalist Miguel Delaney claimed yesterday via X that Chelsea and Osimhen were £100,000-a-week apart during contract talks.
On paper, the 25-year-old Serie A striker would’ve been the perfect addition at Stamford Bridge. His record of 76 goals in 133 Napoli appearances speaks for itself.
Dani Olmo
Spain star Dani Olmo, 26, ended up leaving RB Leipzig and making the move to Barcelona this summer. But we’re wondering if Chelsea should’ve gone all out for him instead of re-signing Felix.
The Mirror reported last month that Chelsea had a ‘concrete interest’ in signing Olmo. Instead, he’s joined Barcelona permanently, scoring on his debut for the Spanish giants earlier this week.
There’s no doubt that the attacking midfielder, who can play multiple positions, would’ve been a great addition to the Premier League. It does feel like Felix is much more of a risk, though.
Ivan Toney
Chelsea were linked with several centre-forwards that would’ve fit the bill for them, including Ivan Toney.
The 28-year-old England international would’ve been a great option to lead the line at Stamford Bridge. However, he left Brentford on deadline day to complete a permanent transfer to Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli.
Sky journalist Kaveh Solhekol reported that Chelsea were in the race for Toney until the closing moments, but he’s now continuing his career in Saudi Arabia. It’s a shame for the Premier League, as well as Chelsea, that Toney has moved overseas.

Julian Alvarez
Julian Alvarez, 24, is another high-profile forward to move clubs in the summer window. Yet again he was linked with Chelsea in the transfer rumour mill, but he ended up leaving Manchester City to join Atletico Madrid.
TyC Sports reported earlier in the summer that Chelsea were one of the clubs weighing up Alvarez. Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico were named as rival suitors, with the latter eventually winning the race.
Alvarez could’ve been a superb addition in West London because he’s a quality forward, plus he could’ve reunited with fellow World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez.
He won back-to-back Premier Leagues with Manchester City, scoring 36 goals in 103 appearances for them. We suspect he’s about to explode into a new level in Madrid now he’s no longer competing with Erling Haaland for a starting position.
Matthijs de Ligt
Finally, Matthijs de Ligt is someone we’re thinking Chelsea should’ve entered the race for.
There were no serious links for the Blues to sign De Ligt, who completed a move from Bayern Munich to Manchester united in this window, but that may be a missed opportunity.
The 25-year-old is the type of experienced centre-half that Chelsea lacks in the squad following the summer departure of Thiago Silva. Hopefully, there’s enough in the backline for the Blues to navigate their way through the season.
