‘Can’t sort his feet out’… Sky Sports pundit very critical of £32m Chelsea man after Crystal Palace draw

Jamie O’Hara has torn into one Chelsea player following his side’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace earlier.

Chelsea took the lead in the first half after Nicolas Jackson scored from a few yards out.

However, Enzo Maresca‘s men could not add to that, and eventually Eberechi Eze managed to equalise for his side with a fantastic effort.

It means Chelsea have taken just four points from their first three Premier League games this season. Pedro Neto made his first top-flight start for the Blues, but Chelsea fans weren’t impressed with Neto’s display at Stamford Bridge.

Jamie O’Hara slams Nicolas Jackson despite goal

While Jackson was the one who managed to put Chelsea in front, O’Hara was not impressed with his finishing later in the game.

Speaking on Sky Sports (01/09/2024 at 15:42), the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder said: “Yeah, he scored, but it is a tap-in. I expect him to score, but it is a tap-in. You need a striker like Erling Haaland. You give him once chance and he scores. They haven’t got that, Chelsea.

“For me, he can’t sort his feet out in them moments. He is a good player, he makes good runs, and he will get you in there and he will get you a chance, but he has got to take the chance. He hasn’t got that ruthlessness in front of goal, that, say, like a Haaland has got, like a [Mohamed] Salah has got.”

Before the match, Maresca claimed he was pleased with Jackson. With Chelsea failing to sign a proven striker during the transfer window, the Italian is going to have to be.

Nicolas Jackson has to improve his finishing

Jackson had a half chance and then a very good opportunity in the dying stages of Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Palace.

Haaland scores at least one of the two, but the problem is Jackson is not Haaland. It is a bit much to ask him, or any other striker for that matter, to be like the Norway international, who is a freak of nature in front of goal.

However, it is not too much to ask the 23-year-old to just refine his finishing a bit. If Jackson, who cost Chelsea £32m last summer, can do that, then he could go on to become an exceptional player for the Blues.

Chelsea were desperate to sign Victor Osimhen on deadline day but failed to in the end. With the Nigerian not at Stamford Bridge, Maresca really needs Jackson to step up and win Chelsea games such as today’s, something he was unable to do.
