Five things we learned from Chelsea’s 4-2 victory against Brighton

Chelsea kept up their recent momentum on Saturday afternoon with a dramatic 4-2 victory at home to Brighton.

Chelsea bagged another three points in the Premier League this weekend by beating Brighton at Stamford Bridge.

Every goal of the six-goal thriller was scored in a chaotic first half of football, including four of them for Blues superstar Cole Palmer. Paul Merson recently said Chelsea would sell Palmer for £100m, but there would surely be riots if that ever happened.

Here are five things we learned from Chelsea’s success at home to Brighton…

Cole Palmer isn’t a one season wonder

Palmer set the bar incredibly high for himself during his debut season at Chelsea last year, scoring 25 goals and making 15 assists. We’ve quickly learned that it wasn’t a one-off campaign, though.

The English attacker is absolutely thriving in the No.10 position for the Blues right now.

As it stands, Palmer now has six goals and four assists in the six Premier League games this season.

We’re not quite sure just how high the 22-year-old’s ceiling is in football, but everyone should strap themselves in for this remarkable ride. The way he scored four goals in Saturday’s win over Brighton was truly mesmerising.

Fans will get value for money this year

It’s pretty evident this season that supporters who attend Chelsea games will get their money’s worth.

In the six league matches that Chelsea have played this season, there’s already been a total of 22 goals. So far, no team in the division has scored more than the Blues’ tally of 15 goals. We’d love to see them tighten up defensively, though.

Enzo Maresca still has a lot of fine-tuning to do with this team, but the entertainment he’s brought with him to the club has been a huge tick.

There’s still question marks about Robert Sanchez

Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, 26, has been in decent form in the opening stages of the season. However, it’ll be interesting to see how he reacts after two of his errors led to Brighton goals this weekend.

First of all, he needlessly came charging out in an attempt to clear the ball for Brighton’s opener. Afterwards, he gifted away possession to give the Seagulls another goal. Thankfully, he didn’t end up costing his side three points.

Many Chelsea fans have suggested Sanchez should be dropped, so he’s now got some increasing pressure on his shoulders to deal with.

If there were question marks about Sanchez’s position in the XI going into the season, they’ve now resurfaced again after one very bad display.

Jadon Sancho deal is superb business

There were eyebrows raised when Chelsea signed Jadon Sancho in the summer from Manchester United on loan with an obligation to buy. However, we’re now more and more convinced this was a great signing from the club.

Sancho assisted in each of his first two Blues appearances. Well, he’s now made it three assists in three games for the club after creating Palmer’s fourth goal against Brighton with a clever forward pass.

Sancho has matched a Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard record by assisting in his first three Premier League games for Chelsea.

The left-winger certainly seems to be playing with extreme confidence and looks a great fit for Maresca’s XI.

Nicolas Jackson is still not ruthless

We’d hoped Nicolas Jackson’s two goals against West Ham last weekend could be the lightbulb moment where he would suddenly become this ruthless finisher. Unfortunately, he missed a couple of great chance to score again versus Brighton.

Overall, the 23-year-old striker delivered another eye-catching performance on Saturday to help record the win. It was his unselfish assist that teed Palmer up on a plate for his first goal.

Jackson is going to be such a key player for the Blues as the season progresses, but fans know he’s still hit and miss in front of goal.
