Enzo Maresca was prepared to substitute goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen in Chelsea’s 4-0 win against Southampton on Tuesday.
Despite making a costly mistake in Chelsea‘s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa last weekend, Jorgensen retained his place in the side.
At one point, it looked like it was going to be a very uncomfortable night for the 22-year-old. Chelsea fans were not happy when they saw Jorgensen taking his time on the ball.
But Maresca has made it clear that he wants his shot-stopper to find a pass instead of just going long.

Enzo Maresca’s warning to Filip Jorgensen
Had Jorgensen caved into pressure from the Stamford Bridge crowd, he would have been in big trouble.
Maresca did not want the Denmark U21 international to be direct and threatened to take him off if he started playing long balls.
After the game, the Chelsea manager told reporters: “My message to Filip was if you play a long ball, I will change you, I am very happy. It is difficult for all the keepers [getting jeered] but they just need to follow the plan.”
Overall, Jorgensen put in a decent performance, making one very good save in the first half.
According to Sofascore, he made two saves in total and prevented 0.66 goals. With Chelsea’s next game in the Premier League being against Leicester City at home, that could be a good opportunity for the former Villarreal man to earn another clean sheet.
Leicester have been in dire form under Ruud van Nistelrooy, losing nine of their last 10 league fixtures.

Chelsea could sign new goalkeeper to replace Filip Jorgensen and Robert Sanchez
While Jorgensen did a respectable job in goal against Southampton on Tuesday, there is no guarantee that either he or Robert Sanchez will be Chelsea’s No.1 next season.
Chelsea are interested in signing Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool, so the Blues could have a new man between the sticks in the 2025/26 campaign.
The promising Mike Penders could also be an option for them next term, meaning that Jorgensen and Sanchez cannot afford to make any more mistakes between now and the end of the season. If they do, there may not be any way back for them, although that may already be the case.
