Chelsea have just confirmed they’ve welcomed back a first-team player to training this week after his recent absence.
The Blues have completed their pre-season schedule and full focus is now on their Premier League opener at home to Manchester City on Sunday.
For new Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca, it’s the toughest possible test at the start of his reign against the defending champions. Incidentally, they were recently beaten 4-2 by Man City in a pre-season friendly earlier this month in the United States.
The Daily Mail recently claimed that Maresca has impressed Chelsea’s players with his ‘encyclopaedic knowledge’ of last season. However, it feels vital to get off to a good start to win over the fanbase from day one.

Djordje Petrovic returns to Chelsea training
Blues goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, 24, was one of the players left off the club’s recent pre-season tour of the US. However, journalist Nizaar Kinsella explained via X that Petrovic missed Chelsea’s trip with a “minor injury”.
Chelsea have now confirmed via their official website on Tuesday that Petrovic is back from his injury problem and training with the rest of the keepers.
The club wrote on its website: “Enzo Maresca had a full complement of goalkeepers to work with ahead of our opening game of the season, with Djordje Petrovic back in action following injury, alongside Robert Sanchez – who got the nod against Inter – and summer signing Filip Jorgensen.”
Will Djordje Petrovic leave?
Petrovic actually had a decent debut season at Stamford Bridge last term. He started the year as the understudy to Robert Sanchez in net, but he won the starting position for himself in the second half of the season.
Unfortunately, there’s now reports that the Serbian gloveman could possibly leave in what’s left of this summer transfer window.
BBC Sport has claimed that Chelsea are now trying to find Petrovic a suitable loan move. He’s been deemed as surplus to requirements because the club plan to go into the new season with Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen as the senior goalkeepers.
Speaking on ‘Seaman Says’ last season, David Seaman described Petrovic as “brilliant” in one performance.
If Petrovic does leave, it certainly feels like a pretty harsh decision by the club. It’s clear that Maresca wants his goalkeeper to be an expert with the ball at his feet, though.
