Chelsea are well known for their extensive loan system, with the latest of those loanees being Renato Veiga.

The Blues signed Veiga for £12m in July 2024, and the Portuguese went on to impress in limited minutes at Stamford Bridge.

Having just started one Premier League game, Veiga grew frustrated at his lack of game time – which eventually saw the youngster push for a move away from West London.

Wolves submitted a bid for Veiga, with Borussia Dortmund also registering an interest in the former Basel Man.

Despite that interest, it would be Juventus who secured Veiga’s signature, with the 21-year-old joining the Italian giants on loan.

The Portuguese international has since made his debut for the Old Lady and provided an impressive display – something which has caught the eye of Blues supporters.

Chelsea fans react as Renato Veiga impresses on Juventus debut

Veiga’s wish to play centre-back would be granted against Empoli, with Thiago Motta choosing to play his new signing alongside Federico Gatti in the heart of the Juve defence.

The Portuguese earned plaudits in Juventus’ 4-1 win, with Chelsea fans highlighting his eye-catching performance on X (formerly Twitter).

One fan said: “Nice to see Renato Veiga starting for Juventus immediately and having a solid debut.”

Other supporters have been left questioning Chelsea’s decision to loan Veiga, following his debut performance – with one fan stating: “Renato Veiga walking straight into Juventus first team is funny, Chelsea need to do more.”

Another supporter added: “Renato Veiga master class for Juventus. Played with a lot of freedom & confidence in a system that fits him. Maresca one one-dimensional system is killing ballers.”

Veiga’s stats could suggest Enzo Maresca missed a trick

With Axel Disasi nearing a Chelsea exit and Levi Colwill struggling in recent weeks – many Blues fans may now be questioning the reasoning behind Veiga’s departure.

The youngster’s stats against Empoli could leave Chelsea regretting their decision, with his versatility and quality potentially turning out to be a huge miss in Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Veiga has had a mixed relationship with Enzo Maresca since his Stamford Bridge arrival, but if the pair can start to see eye to eye – the 21-year-old may have a bright future at Chelsea once he returns from Italy.
