Former Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso has taken to Instagram to praise fellow Spaniard Kepa Arrizabalaga after last night’s win against Bournemouth.
Goals from Kai Havertz and Mason Mount secured the victory for the Blues, who put an end to the five game run they had endured before Christmas without a win.
There will no doubt have been nerves around Stamford Bridge as the game got underway, with supporters safe in the knowledge that it will need to be a brilliant second half of the season to rescue the campaign as a whole.
Led by a goal and assist from their German international, they certainly took one step in the right direction.
It wasn’t all positives for Chelsea however. Reece James appeared to suffer an injury in a similar area to where his prior issue had been.
The forced substitution taints what had been a very solid outing for the Blues defence, who lined up in a back four yesterday.
Alonso praises Kepa
Behind them, Kepa continued to stake his claim to be the regular number one at Stamford Bridge with another clean sheet.
His performance seemed to catch the eye of his countryman Alonso, who commented praise on his post-game Instagram post.
It has been a mixed time for the left-back since leaving Chelsea. He came in for heavy criticism after Barcelona were knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages.
However, reports have claimed that he could be set for a new contract as a result of impressing the manager, Xavi.
Chelsea fans will be more concerned with their own Spanish option in that position, with Marc Cucurella starting ahead of Lewis Hall and the injured Ben Chilwell last night.
Playing as a natural left-back as opposed to the left of a three really suited the former Brighton man, who put in one of his better displays since making the switch to Stamford Bridge.
