Chelsea could have opportunity to sign £84m player for less than his release clause next summer

One European club could be about to make Chelsea’s life much easier as they reportedly consider lowering their star player’s price tag.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will strengthen their attack in 2025. They did that during the summer after signing Jadon Sancho, Joao Felix and Pedro Neto.

However, they did fail to land a top striker, so that could be revisited in January or at the end of the season.

Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres have both been linked to Chelsea. Gyokeres already has 22 goal contributions this term for club and country, showing the kind of form that he has been in.

Sporting Lisbon willing to negotiate deal for Viktor Gyokeres

At the rate he is scoring at, Gyokeres is going to have suitors in the summer, with Chelsea being one club who could decide to go after him.

Chelsea have already watched Gyokeres this season and must have been impressed with what they saw.

The good news is, if they do decide to target the centre-forward, they may be able to sign him for less than his €100m (£83.6m) release clause.

According to A Bola, Sporting are willing to negotiate a deal that would see Gyokeres leave the club for a figure below his release clause but only next summer. If anyone wants him in January, then they will have to trigger it.

Chelsea should hold off from signing a striker in January

If there is a chance that Gyokeres could be sold for less than his release clause next summer, then Chelsea should not rush and sign another No.9 in the winter transfer window.

They may be tempted to make a move for Osimhen if he is available. It has been suggested that Chelsea could sign Osimhen in January.

However, after the circus that happened with him at the end of the last transfer window and Gyokeres scoring goals for fun right now, it may be worth prioritising the latter, even if they have to wait a little bit longer to get the Sweden international.
