Xabi Alonso finally takes Chelsea office on Wednesday, and one of his first tasks alongside the potential new signings is trimming the enormous size of the squad.

Chelsea have 10 centre-backs on the books with Maxence Lacroix arriving. The same goes for their options in goal with Mike Penders returning, and Geovany Quenda’s move increases the total of wingers.

Colwill and Acheampong are 'untouchable'.

With new signings joining Chelsea and loanees returning, Alonso has got to move on a sizable list of players with the Blues no longer in Europe. Plenty have already been linked with the Chelsea exit door.

Two have left in Marc Cucurella and Jimmy-Jay Morgan. One player who has been regularly linked with an exit, and has even been the subject of a bid, is Chelsea’s England World Cup defender Trevoh Chalobah.

Chelsea star now ‘expected’ to move to Inter Milan

The Blues will have to move a whole host of defenders this summer, with Lacroix set to join. Jorrel Hato, Josh Acheampong, and Levi Colwill are expected to remain, with the latter two deemed ‘untouchables’.

Como have made a £25m bid for Chalobah, but Chelsea have responded by telling Cesc Fabregas’ side that Chalobah will only leave if £35m bids are tabled. He has a contract at Chelsea until June 2028.

Inter Milan and AC Milan are also interested, and now, L’Interista say Inter need to replace Francesco Acerbi this summer. It is claimed that now, Chalobah is ‘expected’ to move to the Serie A champions.

Inter are yet to make a move for the defender, but it has been reported widely in Italy that Chalobah has been targeted by Inter Milan for a few years. Chelsea also have an option to extend his contract by a year.

Could Chalobah join a Premier League team this season?

While Chalobah is on World Cup duty, it feels unlikely a move will be organised for the defender. But once England are knocked out – or, win the World Cup – things can be expected to move quickly.

Trevoh Chalobah has been getting away it for too long 😑

This is alarming!

There is Premier League interest in Chalobah, too. Reports say Fulham and Crystal Palace are keen on Chalobah, and have made enquiries about a potential move to land the former Palace loanee.

A lot of it depends on what Chalobah wants to do this summer. The Serie A feels like the most-likely landing spot as things stand, but things change quickly in the window. What is clear, is Chelsea will sell.
