In terms of arrivals, it was a very quiet January transfer window for Chelsea and Enzo Maresca.

However, there were several exits, with the likes of Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka and Axel Disasi all leaving Chelsea on deadline day.

A bit before then, Cesare Casadei‘s move to Torino was also confirmed. The midfielder did not play a single minute of football in the Premier League this season, hence his desire to depart.

Gianfranco Zola was a fan of Casadei, but it is clear that not everyone at Chelsea appreciated the 22-year-old’s talent.

Enzo Maresca wanted to keep hold of Cesare Casadei

Although he did not really play him, one person at Chelsea who did seem to appreciate Casadei was Maresca.

According to The Athletic, the Chelsea boss actually wanted to keep hold of Casadei, but he opted to join Torino in a £12.5m deal after his lack of opportunities this season.

Similarly, Chukwuemeka, another midfielder, also decided to leave Stamford Bridge after being snubbed by Maresca.

Borussia Dortmund have paid Chelsea £1.7m to sign Chukwuemeka on loan for the rest of the season.

Cesare Casadei was proud to play for Chelsea

Casadei joined Chelsea from Inter Milan back in 2022 as one of the first signings of the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital era.

In the end, the Italian was only able to make 17 appearances for the Blues. However, Casadei claimed playing for Chelsea made him “proud”, and he has not said anything bad about the club since his exit.

Casadei is a young midfielder with talent, but it never worked out for him at Chelsea. In his home country, though, perhaps the young Italian can get his career going again and make a real impact for Torino.

He could make his debut on Saturday when Paolo Vanoli’s side face Genoa in Serie A. As for his former teammates, they take on Brighton & Hove Albion in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
