What Newcastle now plan to do with Chelsea target Alexander Isak if they miss out on Champions League football

Chelsea will be hoping for Newcastle United to miss out on Champions League qualification this season and not just because they are currently competing with them for a spot in the top four.

Chelsea are interested in signing Alexander Isak and will feel that they have a better chance of landing him if their Premier League rivals are not in Europe’s elite competition.

Enzo Maresca could really do with a player like Isak right now. His side are struggling presently, while Nicolas Jackson is injured.

Marc Guiu has also been sidelined, meaning that Maresca has no recognised centre-forward currently available.

Newcastle will not lower Alexander Isak price tag

If Chelsea were hoping to get a discount for Isak this summer, then they are likely to be left disappointed.

According to GiveMeSport, even if Newcastle fail to qualify for the Champions League, they will not lower their striker’s price tag.

The same outlet claims that currently stands at more than £100m, which is hardly a surprise.

Isak has been in terrific form for Eddie Howe’s side this season, scoring 19 goals in all competitions. They will be very reluctant to lose him.

Liam Delap is also on Chelsea’s radar and will be a much easier target to snap up, especially if Ipswich Town go on to get relegated. They are currently 18th in the Premier League table.

Alexander Isak could become Chelsea’s most expensive ever signing

Chelsea, then, are going to have to break the bank if they want to add Isak to Maresca’s squad.

Moises Caicedo is currently the most expensive signing in Chelsea’s history, costing the club £115m. But with Newcastle valuing Isak at more than £100m, the Blues may have to offer more than Caicedo’s record fee to land the Swede.

Enzo Fernandez is next on the Blues’ list, costing them around £107m when he joined from Benfica in 2023, while Romelu Lukaku completes the top three.

RankChelsea’s most expensive ever signingsFee
1.Moises Caicedo£115m
2.Enzo Fernandez£106.8
3.Romelu Lukaku£97.5m
4.Mykhailo Mudryk£88.5m
5.Wesley Fofana£75m

Ultimately, Isak will not come cheap. But still 25 and with a proven track record in England, he could be worth whatever crazy fee Newcastle demand in the summer.
