Brentford manager Thomas Frank has been discussing the future of Ivan Toney, who has once again been linked with a move to Chelsea.

There was a lot of speculation about Chelsea being interested in Ivan Toney earlier this year, but things went a bit quiet.

However, the Brentford striker is being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge again, with it being claimed that Chelsea could try to take Toney on loan with an obligation to buy.

It comes after the club decided to withdraw their interest in Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion.

Thomas Frank says whether he thinks Ivan Toney will stay at Brentford

Toney isn’t keen on extending his contract, which expires next summer. Considering that, it is in Brentford’s best interest to sell the 28-year-old now instead of losing him on a free transfer in 2025.

Frank, though, thinks Toney will remain at the Gtech Community Stadium despite interest from Chelsea.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Brentford manager said: “There’s been a lot of talk about Ivan the last many years, but let’s say the last six months about will he leave this summer. So far, he’s still a Brentford player.

“So I think we’re getting closer and closer to that he is actually a Brentford player, so I’m getting more and more excited because he’s a top player and I’m loving working with Ivan and we’ve got a fantastic relationship. And yeah, that’s why I think he’ll be a Brentford player after 1 September.”

It has been claimed that Al-Ahli have already offered Toney a mega contract. It remains to be seen whether the England international would be interested in a move to Saudi Arabia.

Thomas Frank should not be too confident with Chelsea circling

It is quite clear that Toney is not at the top of Chelsea’s list. If he were, the Blues probably would have signed him by now.

Again, with less than a year left on his contract, Brentford would likely listen to an offer from their west London rivals for him.

Instead, Chelsea seem to be prioritising Victor Osimhen right now, but Frank should not get too comfortable just yet. Things can quickly change in football; everyone has already seen that with Chelsea this summer after the collapse of the Omorodion deal.

If the club decide they no longer want to go after Osimhen either, then they could quickly turn their attention to Toney, who is unlikely to say no to a move to Chelsea. There, he can up his wages and play in Europe, though he would have to settle for the Conference League this season.
