Whether Chelsea are the only suitors for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has been linked to a few top clubs this summer, including Chelsea.

In fact, Chelsea look like his most likely destination at this stage. It has been reported that two of Chelsea’s directors are giving consideration to signing Osimhen.

As well as the Blues, Osimhen has also been linked to their Premier League rivals Arsenal and Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.

With his future uncertain, he was left out of Napoli’s Serie A opener against Verona, which ended in defeat for Antonio Conte’s side.

Chelsea in good position to land Victor Osimhen

While Arsenal and PSG were rumoured to be interested in Osimhen, they no longer look to be in the picture for his signature.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Chelsea are now the only “active suitor” for the 25-year-old.

Speaking on the London Is Blue podcast, he said: “One thing was crystal clear at the beginning of the window. Victor Osimhen was going to leave Napoli, Napoli wanted the release clause or nothing. There were loads of suitors that were interested, that would consider it, and now we’re at the end of the window and it’s like, ‘Yikes’.

“Not only could Victor Osimhen stay at Napoli, but if he leaves it could be a loan, which is like a massive polar extreme different position to at the beginning of the window and even at the middle of the window. And it shows you that things are getting a little bit tense at this point. So Chelsea, believe it or not, are the only active suitor at the moment.”

Chelsea, then, appear to have a free run at Osimhen. They are in a great position to sign him, though it was recently claimed that the chances of Osimhen joining Chelsea are remote.

Joao Felix could play up front for Chelsea this season

While Chelsea have not got Osimhen through the door, they have at least been able to sign Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid.

Felix is not a natural No.9, but Enzo Maresca says he can play as one, so that is something Chelsea supporters could get to see this season.

“The good thing about Joao is he can play different positions, inside, as a nine, outside,” Maresca said when discussing Felix following his return to the club.

If Chelsea do not sign Osimhen, though, you would expect Nicolas Jackson to continue up front, with Felix playing out wide or behind the striker.

With so many attacking options, there is going to be a lot of rotation at Chelsea this season. Whether Osimhen will be part of all of the rotating that is going to take place at Stamford Bridge during the current campaign remains to be seen.
